Steelcase Gesture review

The original poster struggled with sleep issues for years after sitting down, and tried the Steelcase Gesture hoping it would help but ended up hating it. They found it didn't solve their sleep problem and actually made things worse by pulling them into a deep slouch. The chair seems to use a spring mechanism that determines backrest stiffness, and when sitting upright with the backrest at 90 degrees, it actively pushed against their back the entire time, which was obviously fatiguing. After using it for a while, the only way to not feel completely pressed against the chair was to give in to the backrest at a 90-degree angle, which left them fatigued. They eventually figured out that the 90-degree upright angle was not the most comfortable choice and the chair gave them significant fatigue despite not making them as tired as slouching.

Pros

  • Didn't make them as tired as slouching

Cons

  • Did not help with sleep problems
  • Increased fatigue
  • Pulled user into deep slouch
  • Spring mechanism actively pushed against back when upright
  • 90-degree backrest angle caused fatigue
  • Not comfortable at upright angles
