Herman Miller Sayl review

The poster purchased a Herman Miller Sayl secondhand from a friend who no longer wanted it. While they found the chair extremely comfortable initially, they quickly discovered it was damaging the carpet in their office. After moving the chair to a room with hard flooring and no carpet protector, the wheels sank into the middle column of the chair, scraping the floor. They were thankful they had temporarily removed the carpet for about 5 weeks. The main issue is actually the metal latch that keeps the gas cylinder in place rather than the black metal housing - this is causing the damage to both carpet and floor. There's a noticeable gap when weight is applied to the chair. They question whether this is a Herman Miller-specific issue or just the Sayl model, or if it's particular to this specific chair. They've owned a previous office chair (an IKEA Järvfjället) for nearly 12 years that needed carpet replacement, and they had hoped the Sayl would be the permanent solution. However, they're not willing to replace carpet every 3 months and don't want a more ergonomic chair than this gaming one if they can't use it on carpet. They're stuck and seeking advice.
