Steelcase Gesture review

The reviewer purchased a new Steelcase Gesture after testing it in-store and is comparing it to a Steelcase Amia they've owned for 5 years. They found the Gesture's seat cushion significantly softer and more comfortable than the Amia's, which had a harder and less comfortable seat. The Gesture's armrests are notably better, offering more adjustability and a smoother gliding motion compared to the Amia's clunkier ratcheting mechanism. However, they found the Gesture's backrest to be less supportive for their lower back compared to the Amia, despite the Gesture having more adjustments. They're considering whether the improved seat and armrests outweigh the reduced lumbar support, or if they should return it and stick with their Amia.

Pros

  • Much softer and more comfortable seat cushion
  • Superior armrest design with smooth gliding adjustments
  • Better overall armrest adjustability

Cons

  • Less supportive backrest for lower back compared to Amia
  • Lumbar support not as good despite more adjustments
